what is pioneertown?

At first glance Pioneertown seems to be an authentic frontier town from the Gold Rush era - but like so many places in Southern California, this spot’s got a rich history that overlaps with a bit of film history.

Pioneertown was actually created well after the gold rush, in 1946 by Hollywood producers (Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Russell Hayden, and the Sons of the Pioneers) to act as one-part movie set and one-part public recreation.

Pioneertown is a picturesque desert town about thirty minutes from Joshua Tree National Park in the Morongo Basin. This little town is located 70 miles east of San Bernadino or 30 miles north of the more modern, bright, mid-century inspired town of Palm Springs.

The Airbnb they used for their venue had vintage airstreams, a really rustic-meets-Moroccan decor, and so much flair. For more information on all things Joshua Tree, click here!

We took couples’ portraits at the Pioneertown Airbnb wedding venue, then made our way back to the Yucca Valley Airbnb for the reception. The couple drank whiskey and champagne, surrounded by their close friends and family. It was such a beautiful day to be part of!

I loved the bride’s dress - I’m seeing more and more off-the-shoulder dresses and I’m LOVING IT. Check out Isez’s off-the-shoulder dress in this Utah mountain elopement, Tara’s off-the-shoulder dress from her and Thomas’ Roswell, GA woodsy elopement.
