READY TO DIVE INTO THE WORLD OF

all things eloping?

YOU’RE IN THE RIGHT PLACE IF…

  1. You’ve always dreamt of getting married in an epic location - the heart of the Redwoods, San Francisco City Hall, or beneath neon lights in Vegas (or anywhere in between!)

  2. You shudder thinking of being the center of attention all day + baring your soul in front of people you haven’t spoken to in years (or decades!), or maybe ever!

  3. Big, traditional weddings don’t light you up inside. Maybe they don’t send you running for the hills, but a wedding will be one of the biggest investments of your time, energy, and finances you’ll ever make. Do you really want to feel neutral?

I created this page to serve as a hub of elopement information, taking out a bit of the guesswork so that you can get started planning your dream day! No more wondering if it’s called “getting eloped,” or trying to do it all from square one.

You’ll find stories here about eloping in places like Moab, Lake Tahoe, and even on Georgia’s Chattahoochee River, as well as articles like What Eloping Really Means.

first things first: what does it mean to elope?

I go in depth in this blog post, but here’s how I personally define it: “an elopement is a purpose-driven expression of a couples’ first day of marriage, attended by few or no guests, and is dictated by the couples’ shared values + beliefs rather than societal expectations, familial obligations, or cultural traditions.” To me, there is something a little bit sacred about it, because I feel like you’re able to connect with this other human, this person you’ve decided will be your partner during your time here on earth, and there isn’t a lot of noise to detract from that (literally or figuratively).

I’m reminded of Amy Poehler’s advice in ‘Yes Please” - she says to see other people’s decisions not through the lens of judgement, but accepting what’s right for one person (or in this case, couple) may not be right for another. “Good for her! Not for me.” If eloping doesn’t resonate with you, that’s okay! I’m for people doin’ their own dang thing, whatever that feels like for you.

Hi! I’m morgan pirkle.

But my family calls me Buddy. I help people elope in adventurous places - and then take rad pictures of it to remember over and over and over! I’m a dog mom to two huskies currently living in Utah. When I’m not working you’ll find me baking up a storm or playing Mario Kart 8!

not just your elopement photographer

When my husband proposed back in 2017, we immediately were overwhelmed by the well-meaning questions from friends + family about dates, venues, dresses… we knew a big, traditional wedding wasn’t for us. There wasn’t a lot of information around what it even meant to elope in modern times, or how to go about getting married that way. We made it up as we went along and looking back, we wouldn’t change a thing!

i put the lessons learnt in my own elopement into practice, helping the couples I work with elope with less stress.
